This year, while using the 3rd Edition of Everyday Mathematics, I will assess your child’s understanding of the mathematics objectives on a daily basis.  This will support my educational philosophy of providing your child with the opportunity to learn through various learning modalities, including, but not limited to, paper and pencil assessments, oral assessments, and observations.  Math instruction will include hands-on, mind challenging activities that will promote a life long love of mathematics.  Students will no longer receive percentage grades. Grades will be determined based on a grading rubric of 1, 2, 3, or 4 with a 4 being the best.  As a parent, you can support the assessment process by communicating with me on a regular basis.  At the beginning of each unit, Family Letters will be sent home outlining the skills that we will be focusing on for that unit along with key vocabulary.  I do have some Student Reference Books that may be issued for at home use to help you help your child learn the different methods the Everyday Mathematics philosophy.  Please send in a note with your child or send me an email if you would like one for at home.  Together, I look forward to working together to have a very successful 2007-2008 school year!
